Social resources support the ability to create harmony in one’s relationships with others, demonstrate effective communication skills, develop the capacity for healthy intimacy and cultivate a support network of caring friends and/or family members.
- Butler Arts Center—This includes Clowes Hall, Butler’s performing arts center on campus and the Schrott Center. The Schrott Center provides students and faculty staff with “a full-sized laboratory” in which to participate and experience the arts.
- The Compass Center—The Compass Center seeks to provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to reflect on their own passions and how to connect the life they lead to a sense of purpose and meaning.
- Department of Student Involvement and Leadership—This department is the hub of co-curricular activities and campus-wide programming at Butler University.
- Student Organizations and Clubs—A list of all student organizations including their members and upcoming events.
- Volunteer Center (VC)—This office is dedicated to helping students find volunteer opportunities on and off campus.
- Efroymson Diversity Center (DC)—The Center, located on the lower level of Atherton Union (Atherton, room 004) houses the Office of Diversity Programs.
- Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL)— For over one-third of Butler students, building lasting relationships, developing skills as leaders, and organizing all-campus fundraisers through Fraternity and Sorority Life is college at its best. With the potential to explore new experiences and activities, our chapters (seven fraternities and eight sororities): plan formals and social events, service projects, stay connected with alumni mentors, while maintaining GPAs that are, on average above a 3.0. In any given year, members of Butler’s FSL contribute thousands of hours in service and tens of thousands of dollars to not only the Indianapolis community & many national non-profits.
- Health and Recreation Complex (HRC)—The Health and Recreation Complex (HRC) offers many programs and services to Butler students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as the Indianapolis community. Not only is it the main location for the Department of Recreation, the HRC also houses the offices of Counseling and Consultation Services, Health Promotion, and Health Services, making it a true wellness center on campus.
- Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS)—Butler’s licensed and professionally trained staff offers counseling services to all currently enrolled students. We strive to provide students with the support and resources they need to help them achieve their personal and academic goals and enhance their experience while in college.
- Recreation and Wellness
- Intramural Sports—We provide a variety of sports that are both active (i.e. basketball) and passive (i.e. euchre). These sports are open to all Butler students and formatted as a one-day special event/tournament or a 3-week league with a playoff tournament.
- Club Sports—Are you looking to participate in a sport on a more competitive and regular basis? If so, club sports is your answer. Most club sports practice 2–3 times a week and compete on-campus, off-campus, and possibly nationally with other universities.
- Group Fitness Classes—The HRC offers a variety of exciting, fun, and dynamic group fitness classes on a weekly basis that are free with HRC membership.
- Butler’s Approach to Alcohol—It is important to be familiar with the state and local laws concerning alcohol.
- Indiana Lifeline Law—Reinforces the importance of calling for assistance when underage drinkers require medical assistance.
- Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) — Butler’s licensed and professionally trained staff are here to help support you, whether you’re in active recovery, or want support with alcohol or substance use challenges.
- Residence Life—Residence Life seeks to promote and maintain an environment on campus where students are free to develop academically and socially.
- Faculty in Residence (FIR)—Butler faculty members who live in apartments within select residence halls and are committed to students and the learning experience that takes place outside the classroom.
- Community Assistants—Students who are available to assist students while they are living in the residence halls.
- Sexual Assault Response and Prevention (SARP)—The SARP Office is available to respond to students who have experienced forced or unwanted sexual contact or interpersonal violence.
- Student Government Association (SGA)—SGA is an elected body of student leaders that program events, advocate for student concerns and provide opportunities for learning, engagement, and community.
- The Carillon—A weekly newsletter that allows you to stay up to date with all things SGA.
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Board—This board of SGA is dedicated to hosting diversity events and promoting awareness on campus.
- Program Board—This board of SGA works to provide fun and educational events for all students.
- Service and Philanthropy Board—This board of SGA oversees multiple service organizations and organizes other volunteer and relief fundraising opportunities.
